Detailed Synopsis

Captain Flint has up from a dream where Miranda Barlow climbs out of the ocean onto The Walrus. She stares at him and starts to speak to him, but he can't hear what she is saying. Flint then follows her below deck and is then woken up by Billy Bones, who tells him that Captain Benjamin Hornigold's ship has gained on them. Flint goes up top and tells Billy that Hornigold will drive them into the storm and then retreat. De Groot asks Flint if they can lower the topgallants, but Flint thinks if they do, Hornigold will sense their weakness and continue chasing them. John Silver tells Billy that the crew should have accepted Hornigold's pardons and then when they were placed back on land, returned to piracy. Eleanor Guthrie is washing herself when Mrs. Hudson tells her that Woodes Rogers wishes to speak to her. Rogers names and points out all the ships in his convoy to Eleanor and tells her that he has an obligation to his investors. He then points out the Gloucestershire and tells her that if Eleanor fails, he will send her back to London on it. Warren goes to Featherstone to get 500 pieces of gold. Rackham realizes that Warren was asking for 500 pieces two days ago and Warren tells him that he lost the last amount. Featherstone suggests to Warren that he withdraw a smaller amount due to his inability to keep track of his gold, but Warren asks for 500 pieces.

Max tells Rackham her idea of exchanging some of the gold for pearls. Rackham starts to complain that he rarely sees Anne Bonny and thinks that Anne will always choose to be with Max, but Max assures him that Anne will always choose Rackham in the end. Silver and Muldoon are below decks trying to plug holes when Muldoon tells Silver that Silver did his part for the crew. Flint sees Hornigold turn back and orders the topgallants to be taken down. Billy asks Rogelio if the halyard is free and Murtaugh tells him that it is stuck. Eleanor tells Rogers how she eventually took over the business from Richard Guthrie at the age of 17. She tells him that she gained power by convincing Hornigold and Captain Charles Vane to betray Blackbeard, who was the most feared pirate at the time. Rogers thinks that Eleanor is using him to solve a lover's quarrel with Vane, but she assures him that it is because she knows Vane that she understands that he must be removed. Mr. Scott tells Vane that he is confusing the slaves by working alongside them.

As Vane is sitting in his camp, Blackbeard ambushes him and tells Vane that he resented him for many years for his betrayal, but then hugs Vane. They take a walk and Blackbeard tells Vane how he would continuously remember the smells of Nassau until he met Mary. Eventually however he heard about the Guthrie's being either dead or in prison and decided to return. Blackbeard then tells Vane he would like to meet his partners. Murtaugh climbs to the top of the mast to cut the halyard and the ship is hit by a knockdown wave. Some of the men are knocked overboard and De Groot tells Flint that they must take the topgallant in. Some cannons get loose and crush Muldoon against the wall of the ship. Silver tries to help him, but the cannons are too heavy. Flint cuts a rope and part of the mast breaks away and goes flying away with Murtaugh. Muldoon realizes that he is going to die and Silver again tries to free him, but Muldoon dies. Idelle drops a sack of gold coins in front of Rackham and tells him that she found it at the inn by the bar. She tells him that Warren left the last sack of gold in the privy. Vane and Blackbeard go to speak with Rackham and Blackbeard insults Rackham. Rackham explains their goal of defending Nassau, but Blackbeard asks him why they are determined to defend it.

Pirate Recruit 1 and Pirate Recruit 2 recognize Blackbeard and ask to join his crew. Blackbeard says that when he was young, if someone wanted to join a crew of repute they had to fight someone else to get on the crew. He then complains that now people think they can just ask please to join a crew. Pirate Recruit 1 and Pirate Recruit 2 walk away and Blackbeard says that by giving Nassau prosperity, Vane and Rackham have changed Nassau for the worse. Pirate Recruit 1 then walks back to Blackbeard after beating Pirate Recruit 2 in a fist fight. Rackham tells Max and Anne that he agrees with exchanging some of the gold for things of equal value and asks Max not to tell Vane or Flint. Max tells Anne that she understands that at some point, she and Anne will have to part and they kiss. Flint tells Billy to have everyone go down below while Flint stays on deck to steer the ship. Dooley goes to the bottom of the ship and finds Silver staring the body of Muldoon. Captain Chamberlain tells Rogers that he read Rogers' accounts of his voyages, but also heard about rash decisions he made which were costly. Hornigold and Dufresne go onto Rogers' ship and Hornigold is upset to see Eleanor on the ship. Hornigold then tells Rogers that Flint and his crew are dead and gives Rogers Flint's flag. Flint has another dream with Miranda in it, but this time also encounters Death. He wakes up and notices the ship isn't moving. De Groot tells Flint that the storm drove them into the Sargasso Sea. Billy tells Flint that they lost most of their fresh water and they have very little food. Flint asks how far the nearest coast is and Silver tells him that they are three weeks from land.
