In the past, Peter tells Thomas that he believes that Alfred will never let Thomas' proposal come to a vote.  Peter tells him that he thinks he could get everything in the proposal passed, except the portion on pardoning the pirates.  Miranda tells Thomas that she plans on leaving and that Flint has arrived from the Bahamas.  Flint arrives at Thomas's home and is greeted by Peter, Miranda and Thomas.  Thomas asks him if he was able to convince the governor of Nassau to support their proposal and Flint tells them that a group of pirates murdered the governor's wife and nine year old son.  Peter thinks the proposal is dead, but Flint thinks if he could convince the Sea Lords to back the proposal then it could still happen.  Soon after, Thomas is forcibly taken to Bethlem Royal Hospital to be committed due to his homosexual relationship with Flint.

Background

Thomas Hamilton is a lord in England. His wife is Miranda Barlow and his father is Alfred Hamilton.

During the events of Black Sails: Season 2 Episode 1 IX. played by Rupert Penry-Jones

In London in 1705, a younger Captain Flint meets Thomas who tells him the history of the pirate issue in Nassau. He says that he has a plan to rid Nassau of the pirates and worries that Flint might be more interested in rising in his career than in accomplishing the goal. Flint takes Thomas to a pirate hanging and tells him that the difficulty in changing the world is fighting against everyone else who want the status quo.

During the events of Black Sails: Season 2 Episode 2 X. played by Rupert Penry-Jones

In the past, Thomas tells Flint that everyone needs a partner and that he feels that Flint believes his plan to clean up Nassau will fail. Thomas says that the root causes of Nassau's pirate problems are its corruption and poor leadership. He asks Flint what would be needed to return Nassau to profitability and Flint lists farmers, magistrates, carpenters, clergy, food, ships, sailors and an honest governor.

During the events of Black Sails: Season 2 Episode 3 XI. played by Rupert Penry-Jones

In the past, Thomas explains to Flint that Governor Robert Thompson is one of the main impediments to stopping the pirate scourge in the West Indies. He tells him that Thompson accepts bribes from the pirates and then complains about the pirate scourge to his supporters in London. Flint tells Hamilton that even if they appointed an honest person to run the Bahamas, his ambition will cause him to become dishonest. Miranda enters the room and gives Flint a copy of Don Quixote written in Spanish.

During the events of Black Sails: Season 2 Episode 4 XII. played by Rupert Penry-Jones

In the past, Flint greets Miranda and Thomas tells him that Alfred is coming for a visit. He tells Flint that Alfred expects them to give him a full report on their plan for Nassau. In the past, Thomas tells Flint his proposal to offer amnesty to the pirates on Nassau. Flint tells him that his proposal is a bad one. Alfred arrives for his dinner with Thomas, Miranda, and Flint. Thomas tells Alfred his plan on offering amnesty to the pirates and they start to argue. Alfred asks Flint if he is in agreement with Thomas' plan and Flint tells him that he supports the plan. Thomas has a meeting with a group of men including Peter Ashe. He tells them of his plan and most of them get up and leave, except Peter who offers to help.
