Baroness Kessler

Background

Baroness Frieda Kessler offers a search service for old books and manuscripts at the Foundation Kessler in Paris, France. She saw the devil when she was fifteen years old and wrote a biography entitled Aristide Torchio The Devil's Apprentice. Baroness Kessler used to be a member of the Order of the Silver Serpents.

During the events of The Ninth Gate (1999) played by Barbara Jefford

Dean Corso visits Baroness Kessler to talk to her about The Nine Gates. She tells him about the time she saw the Devil and how the Order of the Silver Serpents has devolved into a club for orgies. When she figures out he was sent by Boris Balkan, she kicks him out of her office. He later returns and offers her a gift. He then shows her photo copies of the engravings from Balkan's copy of The Nine Gates and how they differed from Victor Fargas'. She then allows him to study her copy of The Nine Gates. She is later strangled to death by Balkan and the engravings from her copy ripped from the book.
