Detailed Synopsis

While standing in front of Death, Captain Flint tells Miranda Barlow that he once saw a dead dog and watched as the flies landed on its eyes. That was the first moment that he wondered what death would be like. Miranda tells Flint that he resented her for her actions and there is a possibility she might resent him if he just gives up. She tells him that he is not alone and then disappears as does Death. Flint is then woken up by a gong. A group of maroons carry Mr. Scott ashore on a stretcher and Billy Bones, who can't see who it is, asks John Silver who is on the stretcher. Ben Gunn tells them that Mr. Scott is the king of the maroons. Blackbeard tells Captain Charles Vane that they should arrive in Ocracoke in three days. He tells Vane about his wife Constance who had extreme superstitions and although he didn't believe in her superstitions, the conditioning she had on him causes him to exhibit the same behavior he had when he and Constance were married. He continues that he worries that Vane is having second thoughts of leaving Nassau and tells him that a lion keeps no den, because everywhere he roams belongs to him. A ship is spotted and Reuben tells him that it is a Spanish vessel.

A medicine woman pours a poultice on Mr. Scott's wound while The Maroon Queen helps and Madi looks on. Flint is brought to Mr. Scott who tells the others to leave. Mr. Scott tells Flint that the rumor was that Flint was defeated by Captain Benjamin Hornigold and killed. Mr. Scott tells Flint that Nassau has fallen to the British and only Vane and Blackbeard resisted. Mr. Scott tells Flint the history of the maroon island and asks Flint to take on the responsibility of keeping the maroons equipped and to teach them the skills they will need to survive. Flint tells his crew about Mr. Scott's idea, but first he must convince The Maroon Queen to agree to the plan. He tells them that if he feels The Maroon Queen will not agree to the idea, then he will take The Maroon Queen hostage and force her to release his crew. Woodes Rogers, Eleanor Guthrie, and Mrs. Hudson travel to Rogers new residence on Nassau. Lieutenant Perkins brings Rogers a piece of paper requiring him to sign off that the damage to the ship the Willing Mind was through no fault of Rogers. Hornigold walks over to Rogers and tells him that they found a large fortune in Spanish gold in the fort. Eleanor asks if there is any word about Rackham, and Hornigold says both he and Anne Bonny are believed to have fled.

Featherstone receives his pardon from the Pardon Clerk. Eme brings a drink to Max. Featherstone tells Idelle about his pardon and asks her if he being a humble bookkeeper will make him less attractive to her. Eleanor has a meeting with Max and tells her that Rogers is going to create a governing council and that he wants Max to bless the council, even if she will not be on it. Eleanor threatens Max that if she doesn't support the council, Rogers will make Max's life miserable. Blackbeard's crew overtakes the Spanish ship and during the fight, Vane mortally wounds a Spaniard. The Spaniard asks for water and Vane tells Ellers to bring him rum. Mr. Scott asks The Maroon Queen to listen to what Flint has to say and Madi tells him that she talked with Silver so that she could understand something of who Mr. Scott is. Vane gives the Spaniard the rum and the Spaniard points out a deficiency in Vane's fighting. He explains to Vane that if they surrender then their wages are garnished and the ship's captain would lose his captaincy, but if they fight and die, their families might get compensation for their deaths. The Spaniard then gives a hint of what the ship was carrying. Blackbeard goes below deck with Reuben and Ellers and find a Spanish Officer locked in a room who shoots himself in the head when they enter the room.

Max walks into the room while Rogers is having a meeting and asks to speak with him in private. She tells him that she cannot endorse his version of Nassau if she is considered an outsider and offers him a black pearl in order to become friends. Eleanor realizes it is part of the Spanish gold. Silver tells Flint that Billy doesn't care if Flint dies and tells Flint that he believes that if Flint wants to, he can convince anyone of anything. Flint is brought before The Maroon Queen and Dr. Howell shows Billy the knife Flint was supposed to use to take The Maroon Queen hostage left on the ground. Flint tells The Maroon Queen that the veil that the maroons were hiding behind unraveled once Mr. Scott was found and shot and that England will come for them. He then suggests that they take Nassau from the British. While Blackbeard, Vane, Reuben and Ellers are searching the Spanish documents, they find a rough draft of a plan to invade Nassau. Rogers tells Eleanor how he got the scar on his face and they kiss. Mrs. Hudson enters the room and admits to Rogers that she provided information to a man named Juan Antonio Grandal, from the Spanish intelligence department. She tells him that the Spanish know of the scheme to convert some of their gold into more portable items and that he must return all of the value of the gold. Rackham and Anne are escorting their share of the gold when Rackham tells Anne that he cannot make himself change his name and is going to return to Nassau to get his pardon. Billy and the rest of the crew are freed by Kofi and Flint thanks Silver for giving him a reason to stay alive.
