Jason "Doc" Gifford

Background

Jason "Doc" Gifford is a bush pilot in Hallinan National Forest. He had some medical training while serving in the military. Jason owns a Bell Ranger helicopter. He is in a relationship with Maxine.


During the events of Airwolf: Season 2 Episode 14 Inn at the End of the Road played by Nicholas Campbell

"Doc" is at the Tarwater home to deliver Charlie Tarwater and Mary Ann Tarwater's baby. He reassures them that he has delivered a baby before, right before the baby is about to be born. "Doc" successfully delivers the Tarwater's baby boy and they thank him. "Doc" goes to Maxine's lodge, the Golden Otter Lodge, and tells her about the Tarwater baby. A newscaster gives a story about Killebrew and his efforts to bring peace in the Middle East. "Doc" greets Sheriff Frank Dudley and asks Sally if the moccasins she is making him are done and she tells him he will have them by Christmas. Sally then asks "Doc" when he is going to look at her bunions. Frank jokes about "Doc"'s rough night and Maxine changes the subject to Frank's run in with some bears and Badger jokes the bears got the best of Frank. Steele and Elena walk into the restaurant and Badger tells Steele the drinks are on "Doc". Steele asks for a doctor and "Doc" tells him he isn't a real doctor. "Doc" looks at Roper's leg and realizes he has a bullet wound and Steele and the others pull out their weapons. Steele shoots the radio in the restaurant and tells Lucas to shoot the radio in "Doc"'s helicopter. During the night, "Doc" tries to get Lucas's gun when Lucas falls asleep, but is knocked unconscious by Elena. They wake up "Doc" and tell him the others are in the meat locker and he says they will suffocate in there. "Doc" then threatens to kill any of them if one of his friends dies. Stringfellow Hawke and Dominic chase after the helicopter and Steele tells "Doc" to signal they are having radio difficulties. "Doc" manages to lose Airwolf when he flies into a tunnel. "Doc" flies them to the McNeil Radar Base. Pilot tells Steele they are nearly ten hours behind schedule and Steele tells Lucas to murder and bury "Doc". "Doc" manages to escape from Lucas. He runs into Hawke and Dominic and tells them about his friends. "Doc", Hawke and Dominic arrive at the Golden Otter Lodge and as Hawke is trying to open the door, he injures himself. "Doc" goes up to Frank's body and picks up his hat. "Doc" works on Hawke's shoulder and then promises justice for Frank. They take Airwolf into the air and Hawke flies injured. They tell Archangel they have located LOKI and Archangel tells Hawke that the thieves match the description of paid assassins from Europe. He tells them he thinks the assassins might be trying to kill Killebrew. The Pilot catches up to Killebrew's plane and helicopter escort and blows up the escort. LOKI takes control of the Pilot's helicopter, and starts firing at Airwolf. Hawke goes unconscious from his wound and Dominic kills the engines. The missile that was fired at Airwolf then hits the helicopter with Steele in it, killing him, Elena, Roper, Lucas and the Co-Pilot. "Doc" takes over and fires a rocket, blowing up the Pilot's helicopter with LOKI. Airwolf escorts Killebrew to safety. At the Golden Otter Lodge, they watch as a newscast says Killebrew arrived at the peace conference. "Doc" holds up a plaque honoring Frank with the words "He caught the big ones" made by Badger. Dominic offers to hire "Doc", but "Doc" tells him he is happy where he is, unless the pay is huge.

During the events of Airwolf: Season 2 Episode 16 Prisoner of Yesterday played by Nicholas Campbell

Hawke and Jason are camping and fishing and Hawke notices Jason is constantly listening to the news on the radio. A jeep drives up and Emilio and another man walk up to Hawke and Jason. Emilio tells Jason, someone from the Golden Otter Lodge told him he could find him there and that someone needs medical attention. Jason asks who it is and when he finds out it is President Marios Guzman that needs his help, he says no. Emilio shoots Dominic's jeep's tires and then takes Jason as a hostage. Jason is brought to the cantina where President Marios is at and Jason angrily greets President Marios. He and Teresa go for a walk and he asks why she didn't leave with him when she knew what President Marios was becoming. He tells her the serum is worthless and she tells him he is free to leave when President Marios dies. Jason tells President Marios that he turned against the people, which Marios denies and President Marios makes excuses for his behavior to Tomas who is sitting nearby. Hawke goes into the room and tells Jason to come with him, but Jason doesn't want to leave. Teresa enters the room and she tells Hawke, Jason can leave in a week no matter what. Teresa goes back on her word and orders Hawke to be taken hostage. Luis runs inside and tells the others a group of soldiers are coming. A battle erupts and during the battle, the box of serum is shot. After Hawke saves them by using a bazooka to blow up the armored truck, Teresa takes away his pistol and orders him to help with the stretcher to get President Marios to another location. Jason makes an escape plan with Hawke and Hawke manages to escape after Jason notices Teresa doesn't shoot after him. President Marios is brought inside a warehouse the Radio Operator explains to Jason how the equipment works. Jason tells Teresa President Marios is dying and she realizes after the message is broadcast then she will be his revenge. Jason finds the empty boxes labeled explosives and realizes President Marios' plan. Luis tells Teresa, Emilio was killed by a military patrol and Jason sees President Marios has died. Jason asks what the explosives are for, but Teresa tells him she doesn't know. The Radio Operator tells them it is too late to stop the vehicles as they destroy the palace, shipyard, barracks and one final van driven by Sanchez is to destroy an unknown target. Before Teresa can order the vans to stop, the soldiers shoot the balloon holding the equipment used to broadcast the signal. Airwolf arrives and scares away the soldiers surrounding the warehouse and then lands. Teresa gets inside Airwolf after Jason tells Hawke and Dominic about the car bombs and Teresa is the only hope to stop them. After they kill Tomas, Hawke lands Airwolf back at the warehouse and Jasonj tells Hawke that he is going to stay for a few weeks and then waves goodbye.
