Lady Silence

Background

Silna is a tribal shaman in the Canadian Arctic. Her father is Shaman.

During the events of The Terror: Season 1 Episode 2 Gore played by Nive Nielsen

While Lt. Graham Gore's group, consisting of Henry Goodsir, Thomas Hartnell, John Morfin, Charles Des Voeux, Henry Peglar, Charles Best and Sgt. Daniel Bryant, are huddled in their tents, they hear a creature roar. Bryant tells everyone to grab a rifle and when he sees a shadow, shoots at it, hitting a Shaman. Goodsir is called over and finds Lady Silence crying over the wounded Shaman. She starts to say something and worriedly looks around.

The Shaman is brought onto the Erebus where Dr. Stanley refuses to operate on him. Goodsir offers to continue working on the Shaman and John Franklin agrees to it. Lady Silence tries to stop Goodsir until Francis Crozier explains to her what is happening. Goodsir tells Crozier that he can't safely remove the bullet and Crozier tells Lady Silence what Goodsir told him. She walks over to Shaman who asks her to try and control Tuunbaq and then dies. Franklin walks in and orders Lady Silence off the ship and after Crozier asks if she can board the Terror, tells him he is to stay on the Erebus until they figure out what happened to Gore. Crozier returns to his ship and Dr. MacDonald tells him Lady Silence is in good shape. Crozier apologizes to her and tells her in Igloolik, his name was Aglooka. He tells her he wants to help and she tells him to take the ships away or they will disappear.

During the events of The Terror: Season 1 Episode 3 The Ladder played by Nive Nielsen

June, 1847, Thomas Hartnell tells Lt. George Hodgson that he has the Shaman's personal items and then gives them to Lady Silence. She notices the totems are missing and asks for them, but Hartnell tells her, there was nothing else and offers his condolences. Lady Silence leaves the ship and starts to carve out an igloo. Later, the Tuunbaq visits Lady Silence's igloo and leaves a dead seal behind.

During the events of The Terror: Season 1 Episode 4 Punishment, as a Boy played by Nive Nielsen

November, 1847, Cornelius Hickey forcibly brings Lady Silence onto the Terror and a fight breaks out when Robert Golding wants to murder her, while Hartnell wants her to be questioned. Crozier walks into the deck and fires his gun into the air and orders everyone on their knees. He demands to know who is responsible for bringing Lady Silence on board and Hickey takes the blame, as do Hartnell and Magnus Manson. Lady Silence is transferred to the Erebus while the three perpetrators are questioned by Crozier and Fitzjames. Later, Goodsir finds Des Voeux guarding Lady Silence's room and then brings her dinner and tries to communicate with her.

During the events of The Terror: Season 1 Episode 5 First Shot a Winner, Lads played by Nive Nielsen

Lt. Edward Little walks to where Lady Silence is being kept and finds trinkets sitting outside her room and John Gregory tells him, the trinkets are removed every morning, but more show up. Goodsir, who was sitting next to lady Silence, hears Little tell Gregory that Lady Silence is being moved to the Terror. He asks if he can come as he is working on a Inuktitut dictionary with Lady Silence. Little tells Lt. George Hodgson that Hornby died on the ice and Hickey and Thomas Darlington stare as Lady Silence is brought on board.

Lady Silence is brought into Crozier's cabin by Little and is questioned about the Tuunbaq by Crozier. Thomas Blanky recognizes the word Tuunbaq to mean a spirit that dresses like an animal. Crozier tells Goodsir to ask Lady Silence how to kill it, but Goodsir refuses to ask her. When she refuses to speak with Crozier anymore, he orders her off the ship. She asks Crozier why he wants to die and Fitzjames walks in and tells Crozier he needs to step up to his responsibility and Crozier punches at Fitzjames, who pushes him away. Crozier orders everyone out but Fitzjames. After the Tuunbaq attacks again, Lady Silence escapes from the ship.

During the events of The Terror: Season 1 Episode 6 A Mercy played by Nive Nielsen

January, 1848, Lady Silence cuts open a seal and eats a portion of eat before offering it to the Tuunbaq. As Lady Silence is chanting, the Tuunbaq walks towards her and she cuts out her tongue. Later, Lady Silence stumbles through the carnival tents and stumbles into the crowd and shortly after, Dr. Stanley starts himself and the carnival camp on fire. The fire spreads through carnival and some of the crew are burned to death. Hickey uses a knife to cut open the canvas and kills Dr. MacDonald in the process. The remaining crew stumble out of the area and the dead are lined up.

During the events of The Terror: Season 1 Episode 7 Horrible from Supper played by Nive Nielsen

April 22, 1848, Irving gives the word, and the group starts their march through the Arctic. Richard Wall serves dinner and Goodsir pull Lady Silence away from the food line. During the night, John Morfin collapses and asks Goodsir to kill him. The rest of the camp wakes up and Morfin takes the rifle from Pvt. William Pilkington and points it at Crozier. Fitzjames orders Morfin to lower his weapon and Morfin shoots towards him before being shot dead by Tozer. Goodsir goes to his tent and cries and Lady Silence walks in and hugs him.

During the events of The Terror: Season 1 Episode 8 Terror Camp Clear played by Nive Nielsen

April, 1848, Lady Silence is brought to examine the bodies of Irving and Thomas Farr, which are mutilated with their genitals removed, and she tells Crozier, her people don't do that sort of thing. Thomas Jopson, Hickey, Crozier, Lady Silence, Goodsir, Blanky, and Hartnell prepare to leave to go where the Netsilik were killed. Crozier's party arrives at the scene of the murder of the Netsilik and finds it contained a mother and daughter. Hartnell grabs a sack of food on the Netsilik sled and Lady Silence tells Goodsir that the family were friends of hers. Crozier's group returns and is initially shot at. Fitzjames tells Crozier that Little gave the order to release weapons and Lady Silence is in danger. Crozier tells Lady Silence to leave and Goodsir apologizes to Lady Silence.

During the events of The Terror: Season 1 Episode 9 The C, the C, the Open C played by Nive Nielsen

Netsilik Hunter tells Lady Silence that there is no way that they can help Crozier's group as there are just too many to feed and haul. He tells her that they will ask for another shaman who will find the Tuunbaq so that the animals will return to the area again and she will help train him.

During the events of The Terror: Season 1 Episode 10 We Are Gone played by Nive Nielsen

The sun rises and a new Shaman leaves Lady Silence when he senses the Tuunbaq has died. Lady Silence heads towards the now dead Tuunbaq and passes Des Voeux, who begs for her help. She finds the dead Tuunbaq and Crozier, still alive. She cuts off his hand when she can't break his handcuffs and brings him with her. She finds Hickey's camp and the butchered remains of Goodsir. Crozier wakes up and Lady Silence takes him to the remains of his camp and he finds Jopson's body. They continue on and find Little still alive, but dying with gold chains embedded in his cheeks and nose. Crozier stays with Little until he dies and then continues on with Lady Silence until they reach a Netsilik camp. Months later, Lady Silence is banished due to the death of Tuunbaq.

September, 1850, Crozier, leaves and searches for Lady Silence, who he finds and makes a family with.
