The Emperor Ming

Background

The Emperor Ming "the Merciless" is the emperor of Mongo and the moons that circle nearby. His daughter is Princess Aura. Ming worships the god Dyzan.

During the events of Flash Gordon (1980) played by Max von Sydow

Ming and Klytus decide to entertain themselves by attacking Earth with a series of natural disasters. He has representatives from the different moons come to his throne room in order to give him tribute. When the Prince of Ardentia says he cannot offer any tribute due to his kingdom's devastation caused by Ming, Ming orders him to fall upon his sword. The Prince of Ardentia then tries to stab Ming, but is frozen in place by Ming's Eyebot. Ming then takes the Prince's sword and stabs him with it. Ming hears someone call him a psycho and he orders Flash Gordon, Dale Arden, and Dr. Hans Zarkov be brought in front of him. Ming orders Dale to come to him and Flash fights a group of Ming's Brutes to try and save her. Dale is ordered to become one of Ming's concubines, while Ming orders Flash publicly executed. Ming goes to his bedchamber expecting to find Dale, but instead finds a drunk Serving Girl wearing Dale's clothes instead. When he finds out that Aura helped Flash escape, Ming orders Aura to be exiled for a year to Frigia and then married off to Klytus. He takes a rocket to Prince Vultan's palace and orders Dale, Zarkov and Prince Barin to be taken away while he speaks with Flash. Ming offers Flash the chance to rule Earth under the name of Ming, but Flash refuses and Ming orders Vultan's palace destroyed with Flash still in it. Ming then schedules a marriage between himself and Dale. During the wedding, which Zogi, the High Priest presides over, Flash crashes the Ajax Rocket into the palace impaling and killing Ming in the process.
