The Whomping Willow is an old tree growing on the grounds at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
During the events of Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
Harry Potter and Ron Weasley crash Ron's parent's Ford Anglia into the Whomping Willow, which then tries to crush them.
During the events of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
Before class a blue bird flies around, and is smashed by the Whomping Willow. During the school year, as the seasons change, the Whomping Willow's leaves change and then drop. Scabbers bites Ron and runs away and Ron, Harry and Hermione Granger chase after him. A black dog appears and charges at Ron and drags him under the roots of the Whomping Willow. The Whomping Willow attacks Harry and Hermione and they are thrown into a tunnel under the roots which leads to the Shrieking Shack.
