Background
King Phineus is the king of Phrygia. He was given the gift of prophecy but misused it and was punished by Zeus.
During the events of Jason and the Argonauts (1963) played by Patrick Troughton
King Phineus is being tortured by the Harpies, who steal his food every day when Jason and the Argonauts arrive at Phrygia. He offers to help Jason if Jason will get rid of the Harpies. Jason and the Argonauts then use nets to capture the Harpies and put them in a wooden cage. King Phineus then tells Jason how to get to Colchis and gives him an amulet after warning him about the Clashing Rocks. He then eats his meal in front of the screeching Harpies.
