Background
The Monolith is an unknown entity from space.
During the events of 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)
It first appears on Earth millions of years ago and leads to the advancement of Moonwatcher and his tribe of Man Apes. Another one is found buried within the moon which is found to be communicating with yet another one near Jupiter. Dr. David Bowman is transported through the stargate by the Jovian Monolith.
