Sheik Ilderim

Background

Sheik Ilderim is a horse breeder. He has at least eight wives.

During the events of Ben-Hur (1959) played by Hugh Griffith

Sheik Ilderim is traveling with his horses Altair, Antares, Aldebaran and Rigel, when he is introduced to Judah Ben-Hur by Balthasar. Ben-Hur gives Ilderim advice on how to properly place his horses during a race and Ilderim asks him to be his charioteer against Messala in the upcoming chariot races. Ilderim goes to speak with Messala and brings with him a large chest of coins. He taunts Messala and the Roman officers and bets Messala 4 to 1 odds that Ben-Hur will beat him in the upcoming chariot race, and Messala takes the wager. Ilderim then celebrates as Ben-Hur wins the race.
