Background
Rand Peltzer is an inventor living in Kingston Falls. He is married to Lynn Peltzer and his son is Billy Peltzer. He proposed to Lynn at Dorry's Pub.
During the events of Gremlins (1984) played by Hoyt Axton
Rand is walking in China Town looking for a gift to by Billy for Christmas when Chinese Boy invites him to his Grandfather's store. Rand hears a noise and sees Gizmo, which he offers to purchase from Grandfather for 200 dollars. Grandfather refuses, but Chinese Boy tells Rand to wait outside and sells Rand, Gizmo. Rand returns home and has Billy open his Christmas present early. Billy opens the package containing Gizmo and Rand tells him the three rules he must follow, not to allow Gizmo to be in bright light, not allow him to get water on him and to not feed Gizmo after midnight. When five new Mogwai hatch from Gizmo when he is covered in water, Rand thinks the Mogwai will be the new hot pet. After Barney is found outside hung up and tied with Christmas lights, Rand tells Billy that he will take Barney with him on his trip so Mrs. Deagle can't get Barney. Rand calls home later and tells Lynn that the competition at the Inventor's Convention is pretty tough. He tries to call home a couple of times but isn't able to reach anyone. As he returns home and is driving through Kingston Falls, Barney barks and jumps out of the vehicle and runs into the mall. Rand stops the car and follows him into the mall and arrives in time to see the remains of Stripe bubbling into the ground. Rand is home with his family when Grandfather shows up at their home and returns Rand's money and collects Gizmo. As an apology, Rand gives Grandfather a Peltzer Smokeless Ashtray no charge.
