Celeste Labusse
Background
Celeste Labusse is a Quadroon living in New Orleans. Her daughter is Coral Labusse.

Celeste hires Caleb Wycliffe to teach Coral how to read and write in English. She later hears Caleb tell Coral that if he had the money he would buy her and set her free, but tells Coral she will never be white enough for Caleb. At the Quadroon Ball, Celeste negotiates with Cesare Dupree to buy Coral and argues with Caleb that it is the only way. Later, she is arrested with Coral for not being freed slaves and thrown into prison. She tells Caleb that if he buys her at the upcoming slave auction, then she will help him save Coral so they can escape. Caleb buys her and they and Antoine come up with a plan. Celeste goes to Dupree's home and tells him if he allows her to see her daughter then she will change Coral's attitude to him. He allows her and she has Coral change clothes with her. She lies to Coral and tells her she will meet her later and then stays in the spring house Coral is being held. Dupree finds out and has Celeste gang raped and murdered by his slaves.
