Dorothy
Background
Dorothy Gale lives near Black River Falls in Kansas. She lives with Aunt Em and Uncle Henry and has a pet dog named Toto.

Dorothy is lying in bed when Aunt Em walks in and tells her it is one in the morning. Dorothy continues to stare into the sky when she sees a shooting star. The next morning, she chastises Toto for chasing the chickens and carries Billina around looking for any eggs she may have laid. Billina finds a key while pecking at the ground and Dorothy shows Toto. She goes to Aunt Em and tells her the key is from her friends in OZ. Aunt Em takes Dorothy in a wagon to go see Dr. Worley and Dorothy has to tell Toto to go back home when he chases after them. Dorothy tells Dr. Worley about OZ and when she finishes he shows her his machine he is going to use to cure her. As she is staring at the machine she sees the reflection of Ozma. Before leaving, Aunt Em gives Dorothy a lunch pail and leaves her with Nurse Wilson. Dorothy is left in a room and Ozma appears and gives her a pumpkin. Nurse Wilson returns and has Dorothy strapped onto a stretcher and Dorothy is taken to Dr. Worley's office. He puts some headphones on her and is about to use his machine on her when the power goes out. Ozma appears and frees Dorothy and they escape from the sanitarium while Nurse Wilson chases after them. Ozma falls into the river and Dorothy jumps in after her. She wakes up in a crate to Billina clucking. She realizes she is in OZ when Billina starts to speak. Dorothy then picks up Billina and hops over the rocks out of the Deadly Desert. She finds her old house destroyed in the tornado and the yellow brick road in disrepair. She follows the road to the Emerald City, but also finds it in disrepair and the inhabitants turned to stone. She is chased into an alley by a group of Wheelers, but manages to get away when she uses the key she found in Kansas to unlock a hidden door. She goes inside and finds Tik Tok and after winding him up, he tells her he was left by the Scarecrow to help her. They leave the room and are attacked by the Wheelers, but Tik Tok fights them off and grabs the Lead Wheeler and takes him captive. Dorothy questions the Lead Wheeler and he tells her only Mombi knows where the Scarecrow is. They force the Lead Wheeler to show them where they can find Mombi and then enter Mombi's castle. They go inside and Dorothy introduces herself to Mombi. Mombi asks her to come with her and she shows Dorothy her collection of heads while putting a new one on. After she finds out who Dorothy is, Mombi threatens to keep her until her head matures and then take it. Billina tries to save Dorothy, but Mombi grabs her and Tik Tok's action wears down. Dorothy and Billina are put into a tower room and she stares out the window towards the Nome King's mountain. She hears a voice call out Mom and she meets Jack Pumpkinhead and puts his arms and legs back together. He tells her he was created by Mombi using the Powder of Life and Dorothy comes up with a plan. She goes downstairs with Jack and winds Tik Tok up and tells them to go back upstairs and build a sled. Dorothy then steals Mombi's ruby key while she sleeps and sneaks into her head room and steals the Powder of Life. She runs back upstairs and pours it onto the Gump Sled Billina, Jack and Tik Tok have made and then brings the Gump to life with the Powder of Life and magic words. They then fly out of the tower as Mombi tries to grab them. Dorothy falls asleep and then wakes up to the Gump sled falling apart. They crash land on the Nome King's mountain. The Nome King appears and asks who they are there and then makes the ground collapse around them when Dorothy threatens him. She falls into his throne room and into the Scarecrow who suddenly disappears. The Nome King notices Dorothy crying and makes Jack, Tik Tok and the Gump appear in the room. He then makes Dorothy an offer, if they can guess what ornament the Scarecrow has been transformed into then they can go. Dorothy agrees and the first to go into the ornament room is the Gump. He fails and the Nome King tells them that those who fail are turned into ornaments. Next Jack goes and he fails and Tik Tok is next. The Nome King shows Dorothy the Ruby Slippers he found and offers to send her back to Kansas and that she will never think of OZ again, but she refuses his offer. She is then sent in to wind Tik Tok, who has stopped moving. Tik Tok tells her he can move but wanted her to see what happened when he picked the wrong guess so she may have a chance of figuring out what to choose. He makes his final choice and disappears and Dorothy wanders around until she picks an emerald and says the word OZ. The Scarecrow appears and Dorothy tells him to look for anything green. He finds two green items and the Gump and Jack change back. The Nome King becomes enraged and picks up Jack to eat him, but is poisoned when Billina, who was hiding inside Jack's head lays an egg into the Nome King's mouth. Dorothy takes back her Ruby Slippers and wishes that she and her friends escape and that the Emerald City and its inhabitants return to normal. They appear outside and then she changes Tik Tok back from a medal on Gump's antler. A celebration is held with her friends Jack, Billina, Tik Tok, Gump, Tin Man, Cowardly Lion, and the Scarecrow and the inhabitants of the Emerald City including the Munchkins, Wheelers, Frogman and Patchwork Girl and the people chant for Dorothy to become their queen. She tells them she has to return to Kansas and Ozma appears in a mirror. Dorothy helps her out of the mirror and Ozma sends Dorothy back to Kansas. She wakes up and Toto runs to her followed by Uncle Henry and Aunt Em. Aunt Em hugs her and tells her the sanitarium burned down when it was struck by lightening and Dr. Worley died trying to save his equipment. Dorothy watches as Nurse Wilson is taken away in a wagon by a Policeman. She returns home and Ozma appears in her mirror with Billina. Aunt Em comes into her room and Dorothy runs outside to play with Toto.
