Robert Neville
Background
Robert Neville is a Lt. Col. in the United States Army and a virologist working in New York City, New York. He is married to Zoe and has a daughter named Marley. His mission was to come up with a cure for the KV Virus. Robert likes the movie Shrek. After the apocalypse, Sam is his only friend.
During the events of I Am Legend (2007) played by Will Smith
Robert travels through post-apocalyptic New York City with Sam trying to find a cure while also waiting for any other survivors. After finding a hive of Infected, Robert lays a trap and captures an Alpha Female. He brings her back to his lab and injects her with a serum he has developed. The following day he is caught in a trap set by Alpha Male and is knocked unconscious. When he wakes up the sun has almost set and as he frees himself he accidentally embeds his knife into his thigh. He manages to escape back home, but Sam is bitten while fighting Infected dogs and after showing no response to the serum, Robert chokes Sam to death. He goes out the next day and stays out until dark and lays another trap for the infected, this time killing as many as he can, before he is almost killed by Alpha Male. Anna pulls him to safety and they return to his home. He wakes up the next day and formally meets Anna and Ethan. He shows Anna the Alpha Female who seems to be showing signs of improvement. When Anna asks him to go with her and Ethan to Vermont where there is supposed to be a Survivor colony, he insists the colony doesn't exist. During the night the Infected attack the home and break inside. Robert, Anna and Ethan run into the lab and ultimately into the room holding the Alpha Female. The Alpha Male runs into the room and starts cracking the Plexiglas with its head. Robert figures out what he must do and gives Anna a blood sample for the Alpha Female and tells her to take Ethan and run into a tunnel nearby to safety. He then pulls out a grenade, and as the Alpha Male breaks into the room, Robert uses the grenade to kill himself and the Infected in the room. Alternately, Robert decides to bring the Alpha Female to the Alpha Male when he realizes they are mates. The Alpha Male then leaves with the Alpha Female and Robert heads towards Vermont with Anna and Ethan.
