Simms]], Roper tells Hawke that he knows he isn't part of a pilot exchange system and that he once dated Nhi Truong. The next day during training, Roper banks the jet multiple times causing Hawke to hit his head on the cockpit window. When they land, Hawke tells Roper he is off the next mission and Roper begs him not to take him off. Later, Hawke goes to Roper's home and punches him in the face twice and tells him he knows Roper's plan to trade a jet to the Soviets in exchange for Nhi and who he believes to be his son, [[Ho Minh Truong]]. He explains his plan to Hawke, but Hawke tells him it won't work. Hawke then comes up with a new plan and has Roper drop him off during the flight.
