Detailed Synopsis
While standing in front of Death, Captain Flint tells Miranda Barlow that he once saw a dead dog once and watched as the flies landed on its eyes. That was the first moment that he wondered what death would be like. Miranda tells Flint that he resented her for her actions and there is a possibility she might resent him if he just gives up. She tells him that he is not alone and then disappears as does Death. Flint is then woken up by a gong. A group of maroons carry Mr. Scott ashore on a stretcher and Billy Bones, who can't see who it is, asks John Silver who is on the stretcher. Ben Gunn tells them that Mr. Scott is the king of the maroons. Blackbeard tells Captain Charles Vane that they should arrive in Ocracoke in three days. He tells Vane about his wife Constance who had extreme superstitions and although he didn't believe in her superstitions, the conditioning she had on him causes him to exhibit the same behavior he had when he and Constance were married. He continues that he worries that Vane is having second thoughts of leaving Nassau and tells him that a lion keeps no den, because everywhere he roams belongs to him. A ship is spotted and Reuben tells him that it is a Spanish vessel. A medicine woman pours a poultice on Mr. Scott's wound while The Maroon Queen helps and Madi looks on. Flint is brought to Mr. Scott who tells the others to leave. Mr. Scott tells Flint that the rumor was that Flint was defeated by Captain Benjamin Hornigold and killed. Mr. Scott tells Flint that Nassau has fallen to the British and only Vane and Blackbeard resisted. Mr. Scott tells Flint the history of the maroon island and asks Flint to take on the responsibility of keeping the maroons equipped and to teach them the skills they will need to survive. Flint tells his crew about Mr. Scott's idea, but first he must convince The Maroon Queen to agree to the plan. He tells them that if he feels The Maroon Queen will not agree to the idea, then he will take The Maroon Queen hostage and force her to release his crew. Woodes Rogers, Eleanor Guthrie, and Mrs. Hudson travel to Rogers new residence on Nassau. Lieutenant Perkins brings Rogers a piece of paper requiring him to sign off that the damage to the ship the Willing Mind was through no fault of Rogers.
