Flint, Silver and Dufresne watch as the Spanish crew continue to pile up gold on the beach. Dufresne tells Flint that his trial has been postponed in the hopes that Flint will help him steal the Spanish gold. Flint refuses to help Dufresne at first and then when back at camp starts to tell The Walrus crew his plan. Logan angrily yells that they should be cutting Flint's lying tongue from his head and Dufresne tells the crew to listen to Flint. Flint suggests they steal the warship and then take the gold. He continues to tell his plan of sending two people to kill any sentries on the ship while the rest of the crew readies an assault. De Groot gets upset with listening to Flint's plan and Flint volunteers to be one of the men to kill the sentries and Silver volunteers to be the other.
In London in 1705, a younger Flint meets Thomas Hamilton who tells him the history of the pirate issue in Nassau. He says that he has a plan to rid Nassau of the pirates and worries that Flint might be more interested in rising in his career than in accomplishing the goal. Dufresne explains to Flint what signals to use and that even if they are successful that Flint and Silver will be expelled from the crew. Flint and Silver then start swimming towards the Spanish ship after Silver is shocked that Flint's plan didn't involve them just escaping. In the past, Flint takes Hamilton to a pirate hanging and tells him that the difficulty in changing the world is fighting against everyone else who want the status quo. Flint and Silver sneak onto the ship where the crew are sleeping. As Flint and Silver are sneaking around the ship, Silver sees a boatswains whistle and steals it, which wakes the sailor up and Flint stabs the sailor in the neck. Flint is about to kill Silver when he tells him that he is the one who dragged Flint onto the beach. Silver calls the watchman down and Flint kills him, but in the process wakes the crew who surrounds him.
Spanish Boatswain tells Flint and Silver that he could torture them to find out information, but he offers to pay and release the person who tells him what he wants to know, and the other one shall be killed. Silver tells him everything. Silver is released and as Spanish Boatswain is about to shoot Flint, Silver hits him in the head, and he and Flint fight and kill the two guards. They bolt the door and Ranking Spanish Sailor tells the crew to find something to break the door down. Joshua breaks the door down and he and the rest of The Walrus crew kill the remaining Spanish crew. They then manage to steal the Spanish ship and escape. In the past, Miranda tells Flint that she remembers what it was like meeting Thomas for the first time and Flint tells her his real name. She tells him that great men are invincible due to their relentless pursuit of creating a better world. Dufresne tells Flint and Silver that The Walrus crew voted 17 yea versus 15 nay votes to commute their sentences and they will be brought back to Nassau.

In the past, Thomas tells Flint that everyone needs a partner and that he feels that Flint believes his plan to clean up Nassau will fail. Thomas says that the root causes of Nassau's pirate problems are its corruption and poor leadership. He asks Flint what would be needed to return Nassau to profitability and Flint lists farmers, magistrates, carpenters, clergy, food, ships, sailors and an honest governor. Flint asks Silver why he is helping him, and Silver tells him the reason is, because he wants to become rich and have freedom to do what he wants in life.
Flint goes to speak with Dufresne and tells him that originally Gates didn't want to bring Dufresne onboard, but Flint believed in him. Flint offers to give Dufresne advice and suggests he not hug the coast as that will take them through the Kingston route and the other pirates will want to take any ship they encounter and there are far too few members of The Walrus to successfully take over a ship. At a tavern in the past, Flint tells Admiral Hennessey what Thomas told him and Hennessey wonders if Thomas is crazy. Hennessey goes to pee and Flint notices Pickram and his friends looking at Flint and laughing. Flint walks up to Pickram who insults Flint based on his socioeconomic background and insults Thomas and Miranda's honor. Flint punches Pickram and a fight breaks out until Hennessey stops it.
During dinner on the 13th of June, 1715, Silver tells the crew that Burly Crewman stole from another one and Burly Crewman punches him. Silver tells Flint his plan of convincing the crew to let him rejoin them and that when he was in an orphanage, a boy named Solomon Little became invaluable to the other boys.
On his fourth goings on, Silver tells the crew that Dooley defecated and used his hand to wipe himself. Dooley gets up, punches Silver and then wipes his hand on his face. He then tells the crew about Palmer having sex with the milk goat. Palmer punches Silver, but is then punched by Joshua. A ship is spotted and Logan tells Dufresne that it is flying English colors. Dufresne then decides to attack it. In the past after the fight at the bar, Hennessey tells Flint that he is worried about Flint's temper. Dufresne manages to take the English ship without a fight. Dufresne and part of The Walrus crew board the English ship and while Flint and Silver are watching everything transpire, Flint tells Silver that there comes a point in the mind of a captain whose ship has been captured, if he did the right thing by surrendering. The Merchant Captain whistles and a fight breaks out. Joji kills the Merchant Captain, but the pirates and Dufresne are forced to retreat back to The Walrus. De Groot tells Dufresne that they must retreat and Dufresne freezes once again. Flint tells Dufresne that they have to sink the English ship or no one will ever surrender to Flint's flag again and then Flint starts giving out orders. The English ship is then sunk. Later, Dufresne asks Flint if the vote was close and then tells Flint that he suspects that Flint gave him the idea on what course to take, because he knew Dufresne would attack the ship and then lose the captaincy even at the cost of the crews lives.

In the past, Thomas explains to Flint that Governor Robert Thompson is one of the main impediments to stopping the pirate scourge in the West Indies. He tells him that Thompson accepts bribes from the pirates and then complains about the pirate scourge to his supporters in London. Flint tells Hamilton that even if they appointed an honest person to run the Bahamas, his ambition will cause him to become dishonest. Miranda enters the room and gives Flint a copy of Don Quixote written in Spanish. In the present, Flint pulls a copy of La Galatea from the bookshelf. Flint tells Dufresne about his plan to get in contact with Captain Benjamin Hornigold so he may bring the ship into harbor and then add Hornigold's ship and crew to his own. Silver introduces Vincent and Nicholas to Flint, who then tells them that their mission is to go back to the Urca shipwreck and to spy on the soldiers guarding it. Flint and Silver arrive on Nassau and notice Hornigold is camped on the beach and not in his fort.
Flint enters the bar and tells Eleanor that he didn't get the gold. He yells at Eleanor about letting Vane take the fort. He tells her about Gates and that she needs to do what is necessary to secure their future. Flint remembers back to the time Miranda came to his room and invited him to join her at looking at some Egyptian artifacts. Hornigold recommends to Flint that they remove Vane as soon as possible. Flint tells Silver to tell the crew that Vane and his men stole all their food. In the past Flint and Miranda have sex in her carriage after Miranda tells him that she thinks he cares more about the appearance of propriety than actual proper behavior. Flint goes to Miranda's house and leaves the copy of La Galatea at her doorstep. Later, Flint tells the crew that he will tell Vane that he and his men must leave by sunrise tomorrow or they will attack the fort.

Flint orders everyone out and after reading Vane's reply accuses Eleanor of helping Vane. Eleanor tells Flint that Vane will not leave the fort if it means he looks weak and recommends she, Flint and Vane have a meeting. Mr. Scott tells Flint and the others that some pirates have joined Vane's forces. Flint tells Silver to go to the beach to try and stop any more pirates from joining Vane. Silver tells Flint that the pirates may have joined Vane, because they don't like Flint.
In the past, Thomas tells Flint his proposal to offer amnesty to the pirates on Nassau. Flint tells him that his proposal is a bad one. Hornigold tells Flint that a number of the captains are on his side. In the past, Alfred arrives for his dinner with Thomas, Miranda, and Flint. Thomas tells Alfred his plan on offering amnesty to the pirates and they start to argue. Alfred asks Flint if he is in agreement with Thomas' plan and Flint tells him that he supports the plan. Returning to the past, Thomas has a meeting with a group of men including Peter Ashe. He tells them of his plan and most of them get up and leave, except Peter who offers to help. Flint asks Mr. Scott his opinion and Mr. Scott thinks taking the fort would be a bad idea. Flint walks to his and Hornigold's crew and tells them to fire on the fort.

In the past, Flint arrives at Thomas's home and is greeted by Peter, Miranda and Thomas. Thomas asks him if he was able to convince the governor of Nassau to support their proposal and Flint tells them that a group of pirates murdered the governor's wife and nine year old son. Peter thinks the proposal is dead, but Flint thinks if he could convince the Sea Lords to back the proposal then it could still happen. Miranda pulls Flint aside and asks him to stop following through on Thomas' proposal. Flint tells his crew to cease fire and De Groot repeats the order. Flint then orders his crew to prepare to move ashore.
Flint and his crew make it ashore and Flint tells Dufresne to find Silver. Hornigold tells Flint that he told his men to keep it a secret that Flint intends on going after the Spanish gold. They walk into Hennessey's office, where Alfred is already waiting and Hennessey tells Flint that Alfred told him what Flint did in Alfred's house. Hennessey tells Flint that he is discharged from the navy and is to leave London. Flint returns to Thomas' home and asks Miranda where Thomas is. Peter tells him that Alfred's men took Thomas and Miranda tells him that Thomas was taken to Bethlem Royal Hospital to be committed. Peter offers to take them to live with friends, but Flint tells him that that he and Miranda aren't going to Europe.
Flint and Miranda walk into Eleanor's bar and Eleanor gives them a room. Miranda then tells Flint that Vane has captured Abigail Ashe and he needs to capture Abigail and return her to Peter. Flint and Vane continue to fight until they are stopped by Eleanor who fires a rifle in their direction. She tells them that they will stop their fighting at that instant and Flint asks Vane to sit down. Flint tells Vane that if Vane gives him Abigail then he will let Vane keep the fort. Flint tells Eleanor to bring Richard so he can hear what Flint is about to say. Richard arrives with Miranda and Flint describes what will happen if England decides to take back Nassau. He tells them that Peter is a powerful man and if they return Abigail to him then Peter will help them. Eleanor tells Flint that Peter hates pirates, but Flint tells them that he and Peter were once friends. Vane demands that he get something tangible and demands he get Flint's man-o-war. Richard tells Flint that his plan won't work if Flint steals the Spanish gold. Flint tells Richard that his men already saw the gold and will not stop from trying to get it. Eleanor tells Flint that Vane agreed to give him Abigail as long as Vane is allowed to stay in the fort.
Miranda tells Flint that she wants to be part of the plan to get Abigail to safety. Silver tells Flint that Billy has returned. Flint returns to camp and shakes Billy's hand and they hug. Hornigold tells Flint that it is time to recapture the fort. Flint tells the plan to allow Vane to stay in the fort to Dufresne and Hornigold. Hornigold refuses to accept the deal and says that he will hold a council to take over as captain instead of Flint. Silver tells Flint that he should have more votes than Hornigold, but Flint worries that if Hornigold loses, he still may attack the fort. Flint then reassures Silver that the gold is still a priority.

Billy asks Flint how many votes he has versus the votes for Hornigold for captain. Flint thinks he is ahead by four, but Billy tells him Dobson, Brewer and Winslow are all nay votes. Flint thinks Winslow is for him, but Billy tells him that Winslow changed his vote when he got into an argument with Muldoon and then decided to change his vote. Flint believes that he has the better message, but Billy tells him that Hornigold just has to remind the pirates that Flint will betray anyone to get what he wants. Dufresne tells Flint that the pirates are ready to vote. Hornigold makes his speech and calls Flint a liar, murderer, thief and betrayer. Silver walks up to Flint and tells him that they need to talk and Flint looks and sees Vincent and Nicholas standing nearby. Silver then tells Flint that the Urca gold is gone. The pirates overhear Silver and start talking to each other about the stolen gold.
Vincent and Nicholas tells Flint that they watched the Spanish get put their gold into another ship and didn't leave a single gold piece on the beach. Dufresne tells Flint that the pirates have put aside the vote. Flint tells Silver that they need to come up with a good case for returning Abigail to Peter and asks Silver to make the case to the pirates. Silver accuses Flint of engineering the gold having gone missing and tells him that he and Flint are no longer partners. Flint tells Silver that if he leaves then Silver will be a nobody while with Flint, the pirates listen to Silver. Silver gives his speech and admits to the pirates that he planned on leaving them when they got the gold. He tells them that he thinks many of them also had that idea, but now with the gold gone, their only other option is getting reconciliation.
Billy tells Flint that 18 pirates have defected including Dufresne. He then tells Flint that he believes the crew will need Flint's leadership and so he will do what is needed to ultimately help the crew. Muldoon tells Flint that Eleanor wants to speak to him. Eme and Miranda see Flint enter the tavern and Miranda brings him to Abigail. Flint introduces himself to Abigail and he tells her his real name. Flint goes into his cabin and notices Abigail stops writing and tells Miranda that Abigail was writing about him. Miranda tells him that seeing Abigail and how grown up she is has brought her to reality in how many years it has been since they fled England and how much she has changed.
As Billy is telling Flint about De Groot's plan on getting to Charles Town early, Billy and the others notice Abigail staring at Billy. Flint then tells Abigail about how Billy was kidnapped by a press gang. Flint admits to Miranda that some of his deeds as Flint are indefensible. Abigail tells Flint and Miranda that Peter sent her a letter relaying to her the time Flint murdered Alfred and Young Mistress as their ship was sailing to Charles Town. He said that law would return to the Americas when Flint swung from a rope.
Miranda tells Flint that she is going with him to meet with Peter and a Boat Captain calls out for Vane. The Boat Captain tells Flint that they received his letter and demands and will pay the ransom. Flint tells the Boat Captain that he is not Vane, and has no demands, but requests a meeting with Peter. Flint, Miranda and Abigail get into the Boat Captain's boat and are taken to the Charles Town dock. William Rhett confirms who Flint is and as he is taking Flint, Miranda and Abigail through the town, Rhett tells them how Peter changed things when he committed to fighting the pirates. Rhett has his men beat Flint until Abigail orders them to stop. Rhett then takes Flint, Miranda and Abigail to Peter. Peter hugs Abigail and then welcomes Flint and Miranda to Charles Town.

Flint starts to give his proposal to Peter, but is cut off by Peter who tells Flint and Miranda that he doesn't understand how they could be the same people he once knew. Peter asks Flint how he became a pirate captain and when he decided to murder Alfred. Miranda tells Peter that it was her that encouraged Flint to kill Alfred. She stands up and Rhett pulls out his pistol and points it at her and warns her and Flint that he will shoot them if they get any closer to Peter.
Flint tells Peter his plan for reconciliation. Miranda asks Flint if he meant it when he said that he and Miranda would retire if Peter agreed to his plan. Flint tells her where the name Flint came from, from a story his grandfather told him of meeting a man who told him his name was Flint and then disappeared after being given rum. House Attendant tells Flint and Miranda that dinner is ready. During dinner, Peter has Rhett and Abigail wait in the hall. Peter tells Flint that he will help him, but on one condition.
Peter tells Flint that he will come to Nassau and then they will sail to London and Flint is to tell his tale. Flint agrees to the plan and Miranda asks Peter where he got the clock she noticed earlier. She tells him that she recognizes it from one that was in her house. Peter tells her that it was a gift from Alfred and Miranda asks him if he told Alfred about the affair between Thomas and Flint. Peter admits to it, but says he had no choice. Miranda tells Peter that she wants to see him hang. Rhett shoots Miranda in the head and Flint charges at him and starts to strangle Rhett, but is beaten to the ground.

The Town Crier tells the people of Charles Town of Flint's villainy. Peter walks over to Flint and tells him that Kensington will make a spectacle out of Flint's trial and if Flint signs a confession of his crimes, Flint will be executed privately. As Peter is talking, the body of Miranda is brought into the town square in a coffin. Peter offers to have Miranda buried with proper respects and Flint asks Peter if he betrayed Thomas, Miranda and Flint for a bribe or out of cowardice and Peter doesn't answer him.
The Town Crier continues to tell the crowd of Flint's murders of their men and women and how he and Miranda attempted to murder Peter. The townspeople then throw vegetables at Miranda's open coffin. Kensington shows the crowd the evidence against Flint and asks Flint if he has anything to say in his defense. Flint says that the only thing he regrets is believing that he and Peter could come to reason. A Militia Guard walks up to Peter with a handcuffed Vane. Vane tells him that he has testimony in support of Flint and it is from Abigail's journal, which is handed to Peter. A Clerk reads aloud from Abigail's journal as Flint asks Vane what his plan is.
Vane makes a speech and raises his hands to the air. Vane's men start firing upon the town square with the town's own cannons. Vane and Flint attack their guards and Flint stabs Peter in the stomach and makes him look at Miranda's body. Flint and Vane get into a boat and start to row towards the Man-o'War and are fired upon by Rhett and some militia men. The Man-o'-War opens fire on Rhett and kills him. Flint has Vane's men released and has the ship continue to fire upon Charles Town. Later Silver wakes up and Flint tells him what has happened since he was unconscious and that Silver is the new quartermaster. Silver then tells Flint that Vincent lied about the Urca gold having been recovered by the Spanish.

Flint and his crew raid a town. Flint breaks into Magistrate Hazzard's home and tells Hazzard of the other magistrates he killed in revenge for capital sentences against pirates. Hazzard tells Flint that if he allowed his fear of Flint to control him from enacting the law, then civilization will die. Hazzard then tells Flint that unlike the other magistrates, he is honest, but Flint shoots him dead and then shoots Magistrate's Wife dead. As Flint looks at the dead body of Magistrate's Wife, it changes to that of Miranda.
Once Flint and his crew return, Silver orders the plunder to be brought on board. Billy says the vanguard members did a good job, but Flint demands Dobbs be removed for losing his nerve. Silver tells Flint that they should remove Flint from the vanguard crew as his death is too much to risk. Flint says that he will decide when their tactics change, but Silver tells him that it is he who will decide what happens as he is the quartermaster. Hallendale's ship is spotted floating in the water. De Groot tells Silver and Billy that maybe the ship was abandoned. Dooley thinks they should check the ship out in case the crew needs help and Silver agrees, but Flint thinks it is a bad idea.
Flint goes onto Hallendale's ship with Billy, Joji, Dooley and a few other crew members. They find it empty except for the body of Hallendale chained to his desk. They look through his logbook and find the last few pages with We All Die Alone written over and over. Billy says that Hallendale was marooned and Flint notes the only water left for Hallendale was sea water. Flint realizes it is a trap and they return to The Walrus. A ship comes into view and Flint notes that the ship is under British colors and is a pirate hunter. The ship pulls up next to The Walrus and Hornigold tells the crew that he will give them pardons if they surrender. Flint tells his crew that he could never surrender to England after they have taken so much from him. He says that England must be afraid of them if they are offering them all pardons. Flint then tells the crew that they are going to sail into the nearby storm. As Hornigold's ship is about to fire on The Walrus, Flint has the crew sail towards the storm and Hornigold follows him.

Flint has a dream where Miranda climbs out of the ocean onto The Walrus. She stares at him and starts to speak to him, but he can't hear what she is saying. Flint then follows her below deck and is then woken up by Billy, who tells him that Hornigold's ship has gained on them. Flint goes up top and tells Billy that Hornigold will drive them into the storm and then retreat. De Groot asks Flint if they can lower the topgallants, but Flint thinks if they do, Hornigold will sense their weakness and continue chasing them.
Flint sees Hornigold turn back and orders the topgallants to be taken down. Billy asks Rogelio if the halyard is free and Murtaugh tells him that it is stuck. Murtaugh climbs to the top of the mast to cut the halyard and the ship is hit by a knockdown wave. Some of the men are knocked overboard and De Groot tells Flint that they must take the topgallant in. Flint cuts a rope and part of the mast breaks away and goes flying away with Murtaugh.
Flint tells Billy to have everyone go down below while Flint stays on deck to steer the ship. Flint has another dream with Miranda in it, but this time also encounters Death. He wakes up and notices the ship isn't moving. De Groot tells Flint that the storm drove them into the Sargasso Sea. Billy tells Flint that they lost most of their fresh water and they have very little food. Flint asks how far the nearest coast is and Silver tells him that they are three weeks from land.

During the 12th day in the Doldrums, Flint tells Billy and Silver that it will take more than seven to ten days to reach a nearby island and they will have to cut the crews' rations again. He then comes up with the idea to feed certain members of the crew, who are deemed to be of more importance, and not the others. Silver starts to argue with Flint, but Billy stops him.
On day 18 on The Walrus, Palmer and Oates are accused of stealing rations. Silver holds a trial to figure out which one of them stole the rations. Oates insists he would never steal from the crew. Palmer says that during everything that has happened, he has never complained. Flint walks up and shoots Palmer in the head and then starts to reload his gun. As Flint raises his gun to Oates head, Miranda's image appears instead of Oates. She asks for forgiveness and Flint shoots Oates in the head. Flint walks back to his cabin and starts to cry.
On day 21, Flint has a daydream where he is back in England and tells Miranda that when he lost Thomas he was enraged, but when he lost Miranda, he became ruined. She tells him that she took care of him like a mother and she loves him like no other. Her image tells him that she will guide him, but then must leave him. As Flint is staring along the ship he again sees the image of Death. Billy tells Flint that they spotted a whale carcass. De Groot says that whale's float after they rot, but Silver insists they go after it and tells Flint he is coming also. Silver and Flint row out to the whale carcass and while they are rowing, Silver admits to Flint that he stole the Urca gold from Flint and tells Flint that he must decide if they will be partners or enemies. They get to the carcass and find it to be too rotten, but find it surrounded by sharks feasting on the carcass. Flint harpoons a shark and they drag it onto the boat. They bring the shark back to the ship and feed the crew with it. After the wind returns, the crew of The Walrus arrive at an island and go ashore.

The pirates from The Walrus are gathering water and food on the island while also making camp. Flint walks over to Silver and asks him how his leg is doing. Silver tells Flint that he and Billy think that England may have come up with a plan for a universal pardon. Silver thinks they may return to a Nassau that is under assault by the British, but Flint thinks if there was a battle, it is already over. A group of Maroons then capture The Walrus crew.
As they are being brought to the Maroon camp, Dooley wonders if the Maroons will be less harsh on them due to them fleeing a few slaves, but Billy reminds him that they sold more than they freed. Silver's leg goes out from under him and Twitchy Pirate tries to escape. Flint and his crew are brought to a village where they meet The Maroon Queen who demands to know who their captain is. She asks Flint what his name is and then asks who their quartermaster is. Silver steps forward and The Maroon Queen asks him how they found the island and who else knew where they were. She asks him if he was in her position if he would take the word of a pirate and then has one of the crew taken away while the rest of them are placed inside a cage. Dooley asks Flint what is going to happen to them and Ben Gunn tells him that those who survive the initial purge will then be forced to do hard labor.
A dead pirate is dragged from The Maroon Queen's hut and Ben tells Billy that there is supposedly a king that lives elsewhere and provides them with hard to get items. Silver sees Madi walking around the village and asks about her and Ben says that Madi is The Maroon Queen's daughter. Silver then tells Flint that Madi may be sympathetic to their cause. Flint has a dream where he tells Miranda that he sees no way out of the predicament he and his crew are in and if he should just accept death. Silver tells Flint that Madi can be used to help them. Flint tells Silver that Woodes Rogers' plan is something he came up with and resisting it is something against what he used to be.

While standing in front of Death, Flint tells Miranda that he once saw a dead dog and watched as the flies landed on its eyes. That was the first moment that he wondered what death would be like. Miranda tells Flint that he resented her for her actions and there is a possibility she might resent him if he just gives up. She tells him that he is not alone and then disappears as does Death. Flint is then woken up by a gong. A group of maroons carry Mr. Scott ashore on a stretcher.
A medicine woman pours a poultice on Mr. Scott's wound while The Maroon Queen helps and Madi looks on. Flint is brought to Mr. Scott who tells the others to leave. Mr. Scott tells Flint that the rumor was that Flint was defeated by Hornigold and killed. Mr. Scott tells Flint that Nassau has fallen to the British and only Vane and Blackbeard resisted. Mr. Scott tells Flint the history of the maroon island and asks Flint to take on the responsibility of keeping the maroons equipped and to teach them the skills they will need to survive. Flint tells his crew about Mr. Scott's idea, but first he must convince The Maroon Queen to agree to the plan. He tells them that if he feels The Maroon Queen will not agree to the idea, then he will take The Maroon Queen hostage and force her to release his crew.
Silver tells Flint that Billy doesn't care if Flint dies and tells Flint that he believes that if Flint wants to, he can convince anyone of anything. Flint is brought before The Maroon Queen and tells The Maroon Queen that the veil that the maroons were hiding behind unraveled once Mr. Scott was found and shot and that England will come for them. He then suggests that they take Nassau from the British. Billy and the rest of the crew are freed by Kofi and Flint thanks Silver for giving him a reason to stay alive.

As Flint's crew and the Maroons are working together on The Walrus, Dobbs starts yelling at a Maroon when a piece of the mast almost falls on a crew member. Flint asks what is the matter and Dobbs tells him that the Maroon's lashing came undone even though he just showed him how to do it. Flint tells Dobbs that he instructed the Maroon wrong on how to tie the lashing and reminds him that they have to make the Maroons feel like they need Flint's crew. Billy asks Flint how he thinks the agreement between themselves and the Maroons will work and Flint realizes that Billy doesn't believe Flint will be able to accomplish what he promised the Maroons. An island is spotted and De Groot hands Flint a spyglass and he looks out at Ocracoke Island.
Flint and his crew land on the beach and are greeted by Blackbeard. Flint tells Blackbeard what has happened to his crew lately and then tells Blackbeard that he plans to reclaim Nassau. Blackbeard reminds Flint of how he came to Nassau and told them that their ways were wrong. He then tells Flint that as long as he controls the pirate fleet, Nassau will remain in the past. Flint says that the captains of the fleet made oaths to him not Blackbeard and Flint asks Vane to stick to their agreement. Vane tells Flint that Nassau doesn't deserve any more from him and Blackbeard challenges Flint to fight with pistols and then swords over who shall claim the fleet.
Dooley and Ellers prepare Flint and Blackbeard's pistols. The Referee Pirate gives the rules of the engagement which includes no quarter given. In the first round, Flint manages to shoot Blackbeard in the temple, but Blackbeard manages to get up and attacks Flint with his sword. Blackbeard beats Flint in sword-fighting and as he is about to kill Flint, Vane steps in and forces Blackbeard back. Blackbeard then walks up to Flint and tells him take Vane with him and leave. As they are sailing back to Nassau, Vane tells Flint about the Spanish plan to invade Nassau.

Flint tells The Maroon Queen that they need to get the jewels that Rackham took. Vane tells her about the Spanish intelligence he came across that included a plan on invading Nassau. Flint tells The Maroon Queen of his plan to force Rogers' forces to attack the Maroons in their own territory where they will be at a disadvantage. The Maroon Queen tells everyone but Flint to leave and then asks him details of his plan, which he has no answers to give. Flint admits to The Maroon Queen that he is not certain they will win, but their chances for success will never be better. Flint says that he plans on going to Nassau to look for Rackham and The Maroon Queen tells him of a stockpile of weapons Mr. Scott had hidden if needed and Madi will need to come with Flint.
Later, Flint tells Madi, Silver, Vane and Billy his plan when they arrive at Nassau. Vane doesn't think it is worth it to try and recruit the pirates who turned their backs on them and Flint tells him the point is not to necessarily gain recruits, but to make those who don't join them afraid to fight them. Billy says that Silver should be the one sent to recruit. De Groot tells Flint that Nassau has been spotted.
Once they are back on the ship word spreads among the crew about what Silver did to Dufresne. Flint asks Silver how he is doing emotionally and Silver tells him that sometimes he feels good after doing the bad things he must do. The next morning, De Groot calls to Flint. Flint looks to the beach and sees Rogers in a tent on the beach. Flint takes a boat to the beach and sits down in front of Rogers. Rogers tells Flint that he knows of Flint's and Thomas's efforts that helped him get to where he is now. Flint tells Rogers that Thomas was killed for trying to change England and that Miranda was killed while she and Flint tried to make peace with England. Rogers warns Flint that he can be a villain and he will hang any pirate he catches and he is not afraid of Flint. Flint then returns to The Walrus. Background
James McGraw, aka, Nathaniel James Flint is the captain of The Walrus in the West Indies. His father was a carpenter and he was raised by his grandfather, a fisherman in Padstow. Flint was originally a lieutenant in the Royal Navy.
During the events of Black Sails: Season 1 Episode 1 I. played by Toby Stephens
The Walrus attacks a merchant ship. The Walrus catches up to the merchant ship and a barrel rolls towards the door and explodes and most of the remaining sailors on the merchant ship are killed. Captain Parrish shoots at Singleton, but instead kills his own man and as Singleton is about to kill Parrish, Flint stops him. Flint shows Gates the Captain's Log, but Gates notices the page with the schedule is torn out. Dr. Howell tells Flint that Mr. Duffy has died. Singleton is about to torture Parrish when Gates pulls him away and Flint asks Parrish where the schedule is. Parrish tells him that he doesn't know and the pirates are forced to flee when the Royal Navy ship The Scarborough is spotted. Gates tells Flint that Singleton has the votes to remove him as captain. The pirates then land at Nassau on New Providence Island.
Flint and Billy Bones go to Harbour Island to see Richard Guthrie. They are let inside by the Servant and Flint finds out from Billy that the crew thinks he is weak. Flint tells Richard about Vasquez who had sailed with La Casa del Contracion in Seville. Vasquez was tasked with getting an escort for the L'Urca de Lime, the largest cargo ship in existence. Flint asks Richard to help him recreate the information from the stolen page, but Richard refuses. Flint grabs him by the arm and starts to break Richard's fingers and Billy pulls his pistol on Flint. Captain Hume suddenly arrives with two seamen and asks Richard what sort of business he is conducting with Flint. Richard lies and says Flint is a sugar merchant and Hume orders Flint, Billy and Richard taken into custody and Billy grabs one of the seamen's rifles and the seaman fires, hitting Richard in the shoulder. Flint then grabs Hume and slams his face into the table and Billy knocks the other seaman unconscious.
Flint and Billy put Richard on a boat and Billy gets angry with Flint for lying to the crew. Flint tells Billy that a war with civilization is coming. They arrive at The Walrus and Gates tells Flint that the crew has gathered to vote on who will be captain. Flint speaks to the crew that includes Morley and apologizes for their small hauls and tells them the truth of what they have been chasing. He says that a crew member discovered their plans and betrayed them and accuses Singleton of being that person. Gates tells Singleton that he has a choice, a trial or combat and Singleton chooses combat. Flint and Singleton fight and Flint ends up beating Singleton to death. Flint seemingly pulls a piece of paper from Singelton's pockets and hands it to Billy to read. Billy opens the page, which is blank and lies to the crew and says it is the stolen page. Flint tells the crew that he will make them rich and they cheer him.

The pirates continue to cheer Flint and Logan excitedly yells that they will have rum and women for them all. Dufresne advises them not to spend money they haven't earned yet. Flint tells Gates and Billy that the schedule is on the ship and one of the pirates is a thief. Gates realizes the only one that wasn't searched was John Silver. Gates and Billy start to search for Silver, who sees them looking for him and Silver jumps into the water. Flint, Gates and Billy land on the beach and Gates asks where Silver went and they are pointed in different directions.
Flint walks into Eleanor's place and asks to speak to Eleanor Guthrie. Flint tells Eleanor that Richard is a fugitive and he has him on The Walrus. Flint tells her and Mr. Scott about the L'Urca de Lime. Flint explains his plan to Eleanor to increase the security of the island and for the pirates to become farmers. He continues that he is looking for peace and the door opens and Gates tells Flint they found the schedule. Flint, Gates and Billy enter Max's room and Max tells them where the schedule will be delivered. Billy and Flint arrive at the Wastes and they all begin to chase Silver. They catch Silver and he tells them that he burned the schedule after memorizing it. Flint rides to the home of Miranda Barlow and she tells him to take off his boots and she will boil him some water.

Flint wakes up and goes to the kitchen where Miranda is at. She fixes his bandages and tells him that a neighbor must have seen him and a spy has been planted near the scrub pine. He then tells her that he found the schedule. Flint gives Miranda a book by Middleton which he found on Parrish's ship and she tells him that she was hoping he would be able to spend more time with her before he left again. They hear a horse neigh and go outside and Gates has arrived with a wagon and Richard inside. Silver finishes writing what he memorized from the schedule and hands the paper to Gates. Flint reads it and notices Silver left some details out. Silver admits that he left some parts out as he figured they would kill him and offers to join their crew for a piece of the prize. Flint asks him why he doesn't think they will kill him when they get the L'Urca de Lime and Silver tells him that he assumes they will be friends by then.
Flint tells Eleanor that he will need another ship and lists off a series of other things including a dozen 12-pound cannons. While Dufresne and Flint are going over how much items the crew has, Gates tells Dufresne to leave. Gates suggests to Flint that they ask Captain Charles Vane to take part in the attack instead of Gates leading a crew. Eleanor, Rackham, Vane, Flint and Gates have a meeting and Flint immediately brings up that Vane killed Mosiah. After some haggling each party comes to an agreement on terms. Eleanor hears Max screaming and runs out of Vane's tent and sees Hamund raping Max. Eleanor declares that Vane's crew from now on will be cut off from the island and its resources unless they elect a new captain and join Flint. Anne Bonny starts to walk towards Flint, but Vane threatens her. Eleanor tries to comfort Max, but Max tells her that Eleanor is the cause of everything by not leaving with her. Max then walks to Vane and says she will stay until her debt is paid.

Gates tells the crew that Billy will be their new quartermaster. Billy tells the crew that they will need to careen the ship. He asks the crew where they should do it and Muldoon suggests somewhere where there is plenty of rum. Froom asks if they will have a tent for fornication and Billy mentions that it is something they can discuss later. Billy asks De Groot his opinion and De Groot says The Walrus is unsuitable for the task of careening the ship and asks to find a more suitable beach. Flint says they cannot delay the careening or they will lose their chance at catching the Urca. Billy calls for a vote and all but Morley agree to it.
Miranda tells Flint that she misses her life with her former husband Thomas. Flint rides to the beach and De Groot tells him that they are ahead of schedule of cleaning the ship. Flint overhears Muldoon accuse Silver of feeding him bad pork. Flint puts a piece of pork in his mouth and tells Muldoon it must be something else. After Muldoon leaves, Flint spits out the piece of pork and tells Silver to get another pig. Silver overhears Morley complaining to Billy and tells Flint that he thinks Billy might be feeling uncomfortable about lying to the crew.
Logan brings Eleanor to Flint and she tells him about the successful meeting with Captain Bryson. The wind starts to make the palms pull away from the sand. As everyone is running away from the ship, Randall sees Betsy hiding under the ship. Randall goes after her and the ship leans slightly and starts to crush Randall. Morley and Flint run to help Randall and Betsy runs away. They then start to dig the sand under Randall. Silver runs over and throws his butcher knife to Flint who starts to hack at Randall's stuck leg. The ropes are cut and the ship lurches, Flint manages to pull Randall away, but Morley is crushed under the ship. Flint asks Silver what Billy and Morley were talking about and Silver tells him that they mentioned the name Barlow. That night, Eleanor and Flint see the Andromache fleeing and Flint decides to go after the ship.

Flint tells Billy that he knows that Billy doesn't trust him and Billy says that he knows that men have and are about to die for a lie. Flint tells Billy that the crew needs to feel their actions are based on certainties. Billy asks who Miranda is and Flint tells him that he lives with her and she is a Puritan that shares his love of books. Flint gets upset that The Walrus isn't catching up to the Andromache and orders all the sails be raised. De Groot warns against raising all the sails and Logan and Dufresne measure their speed. Billy agrees with De Groot, but then changes his mind when Flint stares at him. Gates then gives the order to increase the sails and they increase their speed.
Billy gives a speech to the crew including Joshua and tells them of Flint's plan of attack using Beauclerc. Bryson starts firing at The Walrus causing lots of injuries and damage to the ship. Beauclerc snipes Mr. Burnett the helmsman on the Andromache. Mr. Harris goes to take the helm and is also sniped by Beauclerc and the Andromache lurches and loses the wind. The crew of The Walrus board the Andromache and Gates tells Flint that Bryson is in a reinforced hold. A Slave calls for Flint and speaks in the Slave's language. Joshua translates for Flint that Bryson sent a message to the Scarborough before he left, where he was headed. A ship appears to their east and the Slave lights a bomb and charges at Flint before he is shot dead by Billy.

Gates tells the crew of the plan to have four men dangle over the side of the ship to cut a hole in it in order to place a charge inside. After getting no volunteers, Flint choose Paxton, Bobby, Dooley, and Logan. Logan argues with the order and tries to get Billy to stand up to Flint. Gates knocks Logan unconscious and tells the crew that while they are in battle Flint's orders are the law. A pirate whistles to Flint and shows him the rag the slaves placed in the porthole. The crew of The Walrus start to rhythmically chop at the Andromache and the slaves attack and kill their guards and then charge into the bunker. Mr. Scott opens the door of the bunker allowing The Walrus crew to come in.
As a couple of The Walrus crew are gathering supplies they accidentally set off Bryson's explosives. Flint worries the Scarborough might have seen the explosion and orders The Walrus to take off even with only a few cannons loaded on board. Flint and Billy go to cut the spire of the Andromache loose from their ship and while they are doing it, Flint asks Billy what was in the letter. The Andromache starts firing at them and Flint yells man over board and tells Gates that Billy fell into the water. Flint compares what Silver wrote down to notes of inlets he has and realizes the course leads to Division Bay. Flint then hands Silver coordinates to give to De Groot. Flint and Gates have a drink together and reminisce about old times. The Walrus and Ranger arrive at Division Bay and Flint briefs his crew. Once they get view of the bay. no ship is there. Dufresne tells Flint that the crew has agreed to dock the ships and send out search parties for the Urca. Logan spots sails and yells it to the crew and yells out that the ship is a Man-o'-War. Flint comes up with a plan to make it appear like the Ranger is attacking The Walrus and then ambush the Man-o'-War as it gets closer. Gates tells Flint he needs to speak with him and they argue about the plan. Gates tells Flint that he is taking the Ranger and tells Flint about De Groot and the others plan on hanging Flint. Gates tells him that when they return to Nassau that he will have Flint and Miranda secretly taken to Boston and as Gates is leaving Flint grabs him and breaks his neck.
Flint leaves his cabin and tells Dufresne that Gates has died of a heart attack. He tells Logan to tell Mr. Thompson on the Ranger that he is in charge and to sail north. Silver yells at the Man-o'-War that they are being followed by a pirate ship and points at the Ranger. He tells the Spanish Officer where they came from and the Man-o'-War continues on its way. Dufresne holds up the letter Gates gave him which details Flint's crimes against the crew. De Groot pulls a pistol on Silver. As Flint goes to fire a cannon, Dufresne shoots him. Silver fires one of the cannons at the Man-o'-War and Flint tells Dufresne not to waste the moment. Dufresne freezes and the Man-o'War fires at The Walrus and Dufresne orders The Walrus to open fire. The Man-o'-War opens fire again and The Walrus is obliterated. Flint falls off the ship and starts to sink in the water. He wakes up on the beach next to Silver who tells him that he and Flint have been charged with what has happened.
During the events of Black Sails: Season 2 Episode 2 X. played by Toby Stephens
Billy says that Silver should be the one sent to recruit. De Groot tells Flint that Nassau has been spotted.
